John & Clarrisa DeMunn

Our DeMunn family tree goes back to John DeMunn (1785-1826) & his wife Clarissa Goodwill (1786-1873). Obviously it goes back further but this is where we're stuck at as far as finding Johns parents.

CLarrisa's roots on the other hand have been traced back several generations further including one ancestor, a certain William Rogers, who arrived on the Mayflower. I havent nailed that down as fact but evidence points that way.

It is said that John DeMunn died in New York state and is buried in Maple Cemetery near North Darien NY. Clarissa however is better documented to have migrated to Boone County IL with her youngest son Silas DeMunn and his wife & family.

Below is a reprint of Clarissa's obituary from The Belvidere Standard, January 6, 1874. The paper might have been published monthly or bi-weekly. The obit was printed and dated nearly a month after her death.

'Died, DeMunn-On Wed, Dec 10th 1873, at the residence of her son Silas DeMunn in Boone County, IL, Mrs Clarisssa DeMunn.

She came to this county with her son Silas T about 8 years ago from Genesee County New York where she had resided for upwards of 50 years. She was born in Willington, Tolland Connecticut'

I certainly hope that some day we can find more on Johns parents but it will take some serious research into records from the state of New York and possibly other localities to turn up any solid leads.
